Inspiring news from Swann St in DC where 200-odd protestors who were being gassed & attacked by cops were sheltered by local residents despite police trying to batter their way in and firing teargas directly into homes. They were under siege all night but have finally just got free safely thanks to community solidarity! 🙂
One homeowner Rahul, a 44-year-old first generation Indian American who owns a healthcare innovations company, took in 100+ protestors: “If people like us aren’t going to open a door,” he told a reporter “then who the fuck is?” "I'm not letting those kids out of my sight!"He choked up talking about watching police beat people. “It was a human tsunami. I was hanging on my railing yelling, ‘Get in the house! Get in the house!’”He says he’s not a hero. “I opened a door. You would have done the same thing.”
